Keep Your Child On Track

Showing up for school has a big impact on a student’s academic success -- starting in per-kindergarten -- and continuing through their high school years. Even as children grow older and more independent, families play a key role in making sure students get to school safely and on time every day. It is important for families to continue to support their child’s educational experience and understand why attendance is important for success in school, and on the job.

What Can You Do?

Make School Attendance A Priority:
Talk to your child about why developing a good attendance habit is important for their success. Help motivate your child to maintain a daily routine to finish homework and get a good night’s sleep.

Keep communication open with your child and make sure their academic progress is acceptable. The better students engage in the classroom, the better their attendance habits will get. Encourage meaningful after school activities, including sports and clubs.

Keep In Mind:

Absences can be a sign that a student is losing interest in school, struggling with school work, dealing with a bully, or facing other potentially serious difficulty. -- Always keep an open communication with your child to ensure their best futures of success.

Attendance is an important life skill that can be learned as early as elementary. Developing a good attendance habit can help your child graduate from college and keep a job in the future.
