Kingsville ISD Parents Rock at ESC2 Conference

KISD’s Parental Involvement Program (funded by the Federal Programs Department) offered the chance to all PreK-8 parents to attend via flyers which were sent home, and through announcements.

The conference targeted an audience comprised of parents, educators and parent involvement coordinators.  Topics for the sessions were proposed by parents from around the region and included the following topics: “School Nutrition Update” presented by Art Provencio and Silke West, ESC-2; “Preparing for the Future” presented by Steve Luis, Coastal Compass Education and Career Resource Center; and “How to Speak So Others Listen and Get Inspired” presented by Andres Lara, “The Cuban Guy”, A. Success Training.

A total of 600 participants attended this year, representing 24 districts from Region 2. This year’s themed conference of “Power of the Past—Force of the Future” was a fun and exciting event which the parents enjoyed in their 50’s attire.  Mr. Peter Pitts, Federal Programs Director, who also attended, commented, “My favorite part of the conference was interacting with the district parents in an informal setting. All parent meetings provide a wonderful exchange of ideas, however, this conference provided the opportunity to really get to know parents as individuals.”
