KISD Selected As JET Grant Recipient
Kingsville Independent School District is proud to announce it has been selected as a recipient for the Jobs and Education for Texas (JET) grant, provided for Workforce Solutions.
KISD has been awarded a little over $150,000, and funds will be used to upgrade the Automotive Program at H.M. King Early College High School.
The JET grant program allocates $10 million each biennium to defray start-up costs and associates with the development of career and technical education programs to public community and technical colleges and independent school districts. Formerly under the direction of the Texas Comptroller of Public Accountants, legislation passed by the 84th Texas Legislature transferred oversight of the state-funded program to the Texas Workforce Commission.
JET grants provided potential economic returns through:
- Supporting new, emerging industries or high-demand occupations
- Offering new or expanded dual credit career and technical educational opportunities in public high schools.
