H.M. King High School received the designation from TEA in 2014 to establish a comprehensive Early College High School (ECHS) program allowing students the opportunity to earn a two-year associate degree along with their high school diploma – all while enrolled in high school.
Although many high schools around the nation offer concurrent and dual-enrollment opportunities – those programs traditionally serve most effectively the highest-achieving students in the top third of their class.
H.M. King Early College program will target all students entering the ninth grade beginning in August of the 2014 school year.
With the early college program, post-secondary success and workforce ready programs of study will become the expectation for all students and the opportunity to earn an associate degree or obtain workforce certifications in high paying employment areas. This will become a reality for many more students than before.
